In our society, we had made a distinction between Sex and Gender. Sex depicts the biological trait used to categorize people as either male or female like the chromosomes or some other physical description. But, what about transgender??
Well, our views may differ on this but a similar picture comes in our mind after hearing this word. And that is, clapping of hands demanding money. We talk about the 21st century, that we are much more advanced and open-minded. But besides all this, our Think Tanks have to give a look at this. We talk about reservations to the oppressed and other backward classes. Why not to the transgender?? And the first step should be changing our ideology about them. In a democratic country like ours, the media plays a vital role in shaping our thoughts and has a great impact on our society as well. Sadly, media depicts them as fun factors clapping hands-on road, dancing, slit way of conversation. But they are made to do such things so that they can earn a living for their family. They too have the will to be an engineer or doctor or maybe a scientist. All they need is just an opportunity. The Western countries are more open on such topics than us and hence, they had created a much better world for themselves. People say “Change starts with a single thought”.
Challenges faced by transgender people:
Poverty: Mass of the transgender population is living a very miserable life, living under poverty, especially in south Asian nations they are very much dependent upon the others for the financial issues to live there day to day life, we all have witnessed them on streets, traffic lights, in trains in ask of money.
Lack of legal protection: one of the major issues faced by the transgender community is that they lack legal protection, they don’t get the sort of protection that others are privileged of. This is not the case of only developing nations but also in the case of the developed nations.
Harassment and stigma: There is a stigma attached to them, they are mocked and harassed by the mass of population all over the world, they are termed as the Umbrella community. People abuse each other by the names of this community.
Identity Documents: In the majority of cases they lack the proper identity documents making it really difficult for them to even get the necessary facilities. Sometimes they became the victims of wrong criminal proceedings just because nonexistence on papers.
